You're Not the Maker

I love Ikea. Half of the things in my house are from that sweet sweet store. If you’ve shopped at Ikea you know that you have to put the items together yourself. They have these great directions that are pictured and really easy to follow. Recently, I was trying to put together a kitchen set for Ellie and thought I could do it without its instructions. Needless to say, it was a hot mess of a disaster. It’s still sitting in a sad corner unbuilt, unused, and purposeless. It actually looks more like a glorified box than what it was supposed to be. How irresponsible of me to think I knew better than the maker.

I’ve been guilty of the same thing in my life. Trying uselessly to build myself into what I thought I should be, without consulting my maker. I didn’t knit myself together in my mothers womb nor did I know myself before I was created. So why would I think I could grow into my intended purpose without the Maker’s direction. Only the creator knows the purpose for which he intended each one of us. We began in him and find our purpose in Him. If you’re trying to figure out the purpose of your life here on earth, consult your manufacturer. He will show you what he purposed for you.

"Everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible …everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him." Col 1:16 (Msg)

It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for... part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone."
Eph. 1:11-12 (Msg)
