Ellie's 5th Birthday High Tea

Ellie's 5th birthday was princess-y and tailored just for her...and selfishly a little for me too (Yes, I admit it!!!) There are so many rich memories that come with high tea for me as a little girl. Ellie's name sake Lois Evans aka Nonny, my great-grandmother Annie, and my aunt Elizabeth, valued High Tea as a time to gather and enjoy the rich friendships they had. It was a beautiful tribute and life celebration for young and old alike.

With Nonny and my great grandmother Annie in mind, we maintained some key traditions when it comes to our families High Tea. First we used my great-grandmother’s china. Even though I was secretly terrified the girls would break it, they were wonderfully gentle and careful! Another continuation was having Nonny’s dear friend (and ours) Mrs. Rhoda come and show the girls all the ways in which a princess conducts herself when having high tea. The spark for hosting from the days with my Nonny hasn’t dimmed a bit! Every detail intentional and classic (okay, so the cotton candy was a modern twist that no one complained about lol!)

In the middle of the birthday chaos I stopped to look around the room and my heart was overflowing with joy. Moms and daughters, no distractions, no where else to be. Nonny had a way of making everyone that came close to her feel warm and accepted, seen and heard. This birthday party, the finger sandwiches, the scones, the tea, laughter and singing was just joy. I have always longed to carry this same spirit in me and I'm sure that the same is becoming true about my spunky full of life NOW 5 year old. She is mindful, bright, and eager to include everyone! Time flies, but I'm in awe watching this beautiful, God-ordained life be molded to fit His purposes.

More and more I am learning that a mother's heart is most content when those she loves are satisfied and well-fed, so as I saw crumbs populating my great-grandmother's china and 12 little girls singing "I'm a little teapot" while the mom's enjoyed life talks, I was content. God often uses moments to mark us. This was for sure one of those moments!

In the party planning phases there are a lot of details and decisions that are finalized last minute...y'all it takes an army! Every vendor that came through really made the day that much better. From the balloons by Balloon Ish, our amazing coordinator, Kelsey Williams, who helped source all the items bringing my vision to life, to our beautiful Host Mrs. Rhoda, this day was PERFECT. Ellie isn't going to know all that it took behind the scenes to pull it off, but I hope and pray she will always remember just how loved she is and how this life is so much deeper than the surface! God is in everything, working and even slowing us down to enjoy our vapor of a life a little bit more!

You are SO loved Ellie Bellie, you were the first to make me a mother and there's history between us that will be forever and ever. I can't wait to teach you all things high-tea and excessive event planning 👑💕
